Outdoor Education

Building Confidence and Environmental Awareness

In Years 5 and 6, students dive into the Outdoor Education program at Tallong through multi-day experiences designed to develop independence, resilience and a deeper connection to the natural environment. Whether exploring new friendships or building on past experiences, these camps offer meaningful opportunities for growth, teamwork and adventure. Year 6 also explores Canberra and visits significant places including Parliament House and Questacon.

Students participate in more physically demanding activities and are encouraged to reflect on their relationship with the environment and one another. Highlights include abseiling, environmental fieldwork, and hands-on activities like stream health testing, campcraft and tree planting.

The program also deepens pastoral care and community-building within Gioia House, helping students to form lasting friendships and leadership foundations.

Key Activities:

  • abseiling, low ropes and flying fox
  • environmental education and stewardship
  • cooking on trangias and tent preparation
  • pastoral reflection and team building

This stage helps students to grow their courage, character and appreciation for the natural world while supporting a strong sense of belonging in our College community.
